Q + A

What is Sunset Key?

Sunset Key is a private island located off the coast of Key West, featuring forty luxury cottages, an award-winning restaurant, and breathtaking views. The wedding will be held on Sunset Key. If you are not staying on the island, please note that access is restricted outside of wedding events. Therefore, you will only be able to access the island on the day of the wedding via the Fury Catamaran, which will transport you to the venue.

When should I fly in?

We are having guest events on May 28th and 29th! If you'd like to join all of these events, we suggest flying in on May 27th or early day May 28th. But these events are not required and we understand if you cannot fly in for several days. Please be sure to fly in no later than May 29th, as the wedding ceremony is May 30th.

What time should I arrive at the ceremony?

The ceremony will begin at 5:30p.m., with guests invited to be seated at 5:15p.m. We kindly ask that you arrive at the venue between 5:00p.m. and 5:15p.m. For guests not staying on Sunset Key please plan adequate travel time to reach Sunset Key via Fury Catamaran.

Is there transportation to and from the ceremony?

Yes! For guests not staying on Sunset Key, transportation to the wedding venue will be provided via the Fury Catamaran, which will depart from the dock located behind the Opal Hotel. Please check in for the boat by 4:45p.m; the departure is scheduled for 5:00p.m. We recommend allowing ample time to reach the dock. Below, you will find a map indicating the location of the Opal Hotel, with a star marking the boat boarding area. For additional travel details, please refer to the travel tab.

What is the dress code?

We kindly ask our VIPs (that’s you!) to dress in our wedding colors, inspired by the waters and sand of the Keys! Please feel free to wear any shade of blue or champagne. The ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception will be on the sand, so please plan your footwear accordingly (AKA: wear stilettos at your own risk, ladies!). For the gentlemen, jackets are not required, but if that is your vision for the wedding please feel free to wear one!

How and where do I book a hotel?

We have hotel blocks at Opal and Sunset Key. Please go to the travel tab for the hotel blocks. Please note, if you stay at the Opal you will need to take a boat to and from the ceremony. For those not booking rooms at Sunset Key, please note, you will not have access to Sunset Key outside of wedding events.

Can I take photos during the ceremony?

We are having an "unplugged" ceremony (no phones or cameras). The greatest gift you can give us is to be present as we say our "I Do's". We have hired professionals to capture this special moment for us, please allow them to do their best work. After the ceremony, please feel free to take as many photos and videos as you'd like !

What is the Fishing Excursion and What do I need?

The early morning fishing excursion will be hosted by Anglers. The boat will depart from the A&B Marina in Key West for a guided flats fishing adventure. Please arrive at the boat by 6:45a.m. for a prompt 7:00a.m. departure. The boat will return to the marina around 11:00a.m. The trip includes: a 22'-24' flats fishing craft and guide, all rods, reels, tackle, lures, and bait, gratuity, and your catch will be cleaned and ready to eat. We suggest bringing: sun protection (such as a sun shirt, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat), beverages and snacks, and a water-resistant camera to record your flats fishing adventure! If you would like to join this adventure, please RSVP as soon as possible so we can secure the correct number of boats. The cost of the trip is $225 per person, and payment can be made to Susan via Venmo or check. Please mail all checks to: 17204 Ross Road, Spirit Lake, IA 51360.

Is there a registry?

Your presence at our wedding is the greatest gift we could ask for. We are not having a registry and kindly request no gifts. We simply look forward to celebrating this special day with you.

Can I bring my children?

We love you and your kids! Children are invited to the wedding, and your invitation will indicate this as well.

Can I bring a date?

We would love for you to bring a date or friend !
